Serenity House - OUR MISSION

Our mission encompasses all four of the Critical Community Needs recognized by the United Way of Rutland County. We are a professional alcohol, drug and family rehabilitations program dedicated to providing effective treatment with practical goals and a reasonable cost for services. We will turn no one away who we feel would benefit from treatment. We also offer our services to pregnant women and to intravenous drug users. Our primary purpose is to provide our clients and their family members with information, skills and resources necessary to obtain and sustain an alcohol-free and/or drug free lifestyle.

Affordability - For those who do not have insurance our services are based on a sliding fee scale established by the Vermont Office of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Programs. If a person in need cannot afford even what the sliding scale would reflect we will admit the client anyway and seek to bill them upon completion of treatment. (We will turn no one away…)

Substance Abuse – Serenity House and McGee House have been offering a safe haven for treatment and sober living to alcoholics and drug addicts for nearly four decades.

Prevention – We provide information, skills and resources around alcohol and drugs as well as HIV, Hepatitis C, and Tuberculosis. We also provide auricular acupuncture combined with Tai Chi which helps clients to channel their restlessness in alternative ways to promote positive lifestyle changes.

Families – Most of the people who come through our program have families in crisis simply due to the nature of the disease of addiction. We provide a Codependent Behaviors Group on Tuesday nights at Serenity House (residential) and we have visiting on Sunday afternoons. Individual counselors will often try to involve the families as much as a client will allow. Families may come in for sessions or be part of a phone conference. Families are more than welcome to visit at McGee House (therapeutic community) during regularly schedule visiting hours and counselors again try to have families as involved in the treatment process as clients will allow.
